What Is Cellulite?
Cellulite presents itself as unsightly soft lumps under the skin. It
commonly appears on a person’s thighs, stomach, and buttocks, and most
people seek to rid themselves of these less than attractive buildups.
However, many people fail to fully understand what cellulite is and how
it forms. This is unfortunate since knowledge is the first step to
getting rid of cellulite and keeping it from coming back.
As many people might guess, cellulite is formed from deposits of fat.
The fat grows beneath a person’s skin against the connective tissue of
their muscles. Usually, cellulite is found in the subcutaneous fat
layers, which lay deeper than normal fat cells. In these regions,
sections of fat are in small pockets surrounded by tissue. The fat then
pushes on the tissue creating unsightly bumps, lumps, and dimples.
Unlike regular fat, cellulite does not lay flat and smooth beneath
the skins surface, which causes its unique appearance. Cellulite usually
makes the skin appear dimpled or lumpy. To check for cellulite, pinch
your skin and examine it closely. If it looks lumpy, like cottage
cheese, then you probably have some cellulite. While cellulite is
harmless, many people consider it unattractive. Additionally. Of
course, body fat percentage plays a huge role in the development of
cellulite. However, it is not the only cause. In fact, even very thin
people can have cellulite. A person’s chances of developing cellulite
actually depend on a number of complex factors. For one, genetics plays
a major part in how your body produces and stores fat. The thickness of
your skin also plays a part in cellulite development, as do certain
hormone levels. Age can also increase a person’s risk of developing
cellulite. As we age, our skin becomes thinner and is more likely to
show changes in the fat deposits beneath the surface.

Believe it or not, cellulite is one of the most common problems among
both adult men and women of all races. However, women are more likely
than men to develop this condition. In fact, approximately 90% of all
women develop cellulite at some point in their adult lives. There are
two main reasons why women are more susceptible than men to cellulite.
First, their hormones fluctuate during normal life cycles, and hormones
play a big role in processing fat. Additionally, women’s bodies process
subcutaneous fat in larger segments than men’s. In other words, they
have larger spaces to store cellulite than men do.
Since cellulite is made up of fat, the best way to reduce its
appearance is to reduce your body fat percentage. You can do this by
exercising regularly and eating healthy foods. Some products also offer
a solution for cellulite. However, not all of these are as useful as
they claim. In fact, many people with cellulite find it virtually
impossible to completely alleviate the problem. There is some hope,
though. A healthy lifestyle and certain, proven, treatments can
significantly reduce cellulite’s appearance over time.
