Cellulite Non-invasive Vacuum Treatments
Cellulite is a change in the appearance of the skin surface. It has
been described as looking like cottage cheese. It is estimated that 98
percent of women have cellulite. Cellulite can appear on thin women as
well as obese women. Cellulite is usually seen on the arms, abdomen and
breasts. The cause of cellulite has not been conclusive; the reasoning
supported by many in that subcutaneous fat is more susceptible to
herniation. While women want to reduce cellulite, they do not want to
undergo an expensive treatment that has a long recovery time. There are
two non-invasive vacuum treatments options for cellulite currently
available.
Liposuction has been the customary treatment of cellulite for many
years. The standard method of liposuction is suction-assisted
liposuction. A small cannula (similar to a straw) is placed in via a
small incision. A vacuum device is attached to the cannula. By inserting
into the fat layer, the fat cells are broken up and drawn out by the
vacuum device. The recovery with liposuction is substantial; it can vary
from two days to two weeks. A compression bandage or garment is worn for
two to four weeks. The cost of liposuction can range from $2000 to
$8000.
New non-invasive approaches to cellulite treatment have shown favorable
results. The first in-office treatment was the LPG (Louis Paul Gutay),
otherwise known as the Endermologie. LPG was a computer-driven,
hand-held device. Approved by FDA, LPG works by pulling and kneading the
affected skin between 2 rollers. The sessions are very intense and
interactive. The patient contracts and relaxes muscles of the affected
area. This is done to modify skin and promote increased circulation to
the affected areas. Furthermore, fat cell metabolism is restored. The
advantage is treatments are safe, painless and typically 30 to 45
minutes in length. Treatments usually consist of 6 appointments and cost
typically of $100 to $150 per session. The major disadvantage of
Endermologie is that cellulite can return if treatments are
discontinued.
VelaSmooth, another cellulite treatment, incorporates bipolar
radiofrequency, infrared light (700 – 2000nm) and vacuum suction.
VelaSmooth works to alter the connective tissue septa and fat which are
contributors of cellulite. The patient feels a deep soothing heat in the
areas treated. It is similar to the experience of a deep tissue massage.
There has been an average of 40% to 50% improvement of the cellulite of
the study participants. An advantage of VelaSmooth is that there are
very few side effects with this treatment. It is approved by FDA, safe
and painless. Another advantage is that a typical course of treatment is
6 to 8 sessions with each session lasting 45 to 60 minutes. . A typical
session costs $150 to $200. The main disadvantage with VelaSmooth is
that cellulite can return in 6 to 8 weeks without ongoing treatments.
Vacuum cellulite treatment can be non-evasive, safe and painless. The
advantages include no recovery period, relatively low costs and
relatively short sessions. The disadvantages are that if treatment is
discontinued, cellulite will return. full regimen of two 45-60 minute
treatments per week for at least 6-8 weeks.
Expect modest improvement after the fifth or sixth treatment
